The L.A Gay & Lesbian Center is extremely proud to offer a program to our senior community that provides lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender seniors with opportunities for peer and community interaction and social and recreational activities. Established in 1998, the Senior Program provides a safe place for community interaction with emphasis on improving the quality of life for gay and lesbian seniors living in the Greater Los Angeles area. Seniors can participate in exercise and dance classes that are designed to enhance mental, physical and spiritual health. This program also offers support and chat groups, writing, meditation, and computer classes. Seniors also can take advantage of many social and recreational activities such as dining out, dances and socials, and a variety of day trips. Health education and HIV/AIDS prevention classes are offered, and seniors can get assistance with important legal issues such as creating a living will, power of attorney, or combating age discrimination and elder abuse. Another exciting program is the annual senior/youth photography project called Passing The Torch in which senior and youth clients come together to produce a photography exhibit shown at the Gay & Lesbian Center's Advocate Gallery. All programs are conducted in comfortable, casual environments and offer many free-of-charge activities. All people 50 and over are welcome. A list of Senior Program events is published each month in At The Village. To contact the Senior Program, call Location The Village at Ed Gould Plaza
