The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center advocates on behalf of our community at the local, state and national levels through its Policy & Public Affairs Department. Through our work, we seek to address the root causes of homophobia by promoting changes in discriminatory policies and laws and by working to advance a better and broader public understanding of our lives. We promote access to resources for services and work in the public arena to educate and inform. Our legislative and public policy efforts are divided into two broad arenas: civil rights and health. Civil rights efforts are concentrated on the fight for recognition of our relationships and families including marriage, civil unions, domestic partnership benefits, and second parent adoptions. We are also active in the struggle for safe schools for our youth, working against hate violence, and the ongoing push for full equality for the LGBT community. Health initiatives focus on HIV/AIDS and general LGBT health issuesincluding addressing the overall health disparities our community faces. Location L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center
