The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center's Lambda Medical Group is home to a clinical research program that provides a broad range of studies, treatment trials, and services, including: Disease Description & Diagnostic Studies, Treatment Trials, Education & Social Support Studies, and an Adherence Improvement Program. Many of the research protocols offer free study medications, medical examinations, laboratory tests, or payment for expenses. Patients who decide to volunteer to take part in research studies are making important decisions for themselves and the many others who may benefit from the lessons learned during the study. Taking part in a study is a personal decision that must be carefully thought through. You can learn more about clinical trials, why and how they are conducted, the part volunteers play, and what they need to know at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases clinical trials page. Adherence Improvement Program With all of the stresses of daily life, complex drug regimens, medication side effects, and information (as well as misinformation) from friends, patients in the Jeffrey Goodman Special Care Clinic often find that taking medications can be a difficult task. However, in order to keep T-cell counts high and viral loads low, patients need to take their medications properly. The Adherence Improvement Program is pharmacist run and helps patients take their medications as they are prescribed. The Adherence Improvement Program focuses on each patient individually and tries to correct problems that lead to difficulty with medications and promote good habits that help patients stay on their medications. The Adherence Improvement Program is intended to help patients of the Jeffrey Goodman Special Care Clinic live healthier, happier, and longer lives. For more information about the program, please call Dr. Jim Scott at 323-993-7532 or send an e-mail message to adherence@laglc.org. Locations L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center
